Godlingston Cemetery Extension

Godlingston Cemetery sits in an idyllic rural location and serves the community of Swanage in Dorset. Nearing capacity, the local authority secured land to extend the existing facility by approximately two acres.

Suttle Projects secured the work as main contractor through open tender. Part of this remit was to detail design the drainage and surface levels to provide for a high-quality functioning site, without the cost or environmental disruption necessitated by bulk export or import during the construction.

The work involved agricultural preparation, kerbing, drainage, black top road and path construction and the building of a network of “Rootzone” pathways across the new cemetery. The project was completed on time and within budget whilst working sensitively around a programme of continued services and internments.
