Looking for a supplier that takes sustainability seriously? You’re in the right place.

Suttle Stone Quarries has long understood the environmental impact of our industry and the importance of operating as sustainably as possible. Over the last few years, and with further investment planned for the years ahead, we have been investing in new processes, plant and machinery to make our operations more efficient and reduce our environmental impact.

Our aim is not only to reduce the impact of our own operations, but also to support our customers in achieving their sustainability goals through low-carbon aggregate production and responsible waste management.

For our customers, specifying low-carbon aggregates can form an important part of a wider carbon reduction strategy. It can help contractors and developers demonstrate their environmental credentials and respond to tender requirements where carbon reduction, sustainability and whole-life environmental performance are increasingly important considerations.

Swanworth Quarry Plant

Fully Electric Integrated Processing Plant

Our new fully integrated electric processing plant represents a major step forward in the way we produce aggregates.

Replacing our previous standalone crushing and screening units with one streamlined system, the plant eliminates diesel use from this part of our operation and removes the need for a diesel wheeled loader and diesel screen. This more efficient approach is expected to reduce our carbon emissions by almost 130 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent every year, while our solar PV investment provides renewable energy to help power the plant.

Electric Loading Shovel

Our LiuGong 856HE electric loading shovel is our first fully electric loading shovel, operating at Swanworth Quarry. With a 423kWh battery, it is capable of carrying out a full day’s work on a single charge before being recharged overnight and ready for the following day.

The shovel significantly reduces our reliance on fossil fuels and, alongside our investment in solar generation, supports our move towards lower-carbon quarrying operations. It is another important investment in technology designed to improve efficiency while reducing our environmental impact.

Solar Power

Solar Panels

We have been investing in renewable energy to power our increasingly electrified operations. In addition to our solar PV array on our workshop roof, our new 370kWp solar PV array will generate significantly more clean energy to support our aggregate production.

Designed to provide enough renewable electricity to power up to 100% of our crushing and screening plant, helping us reduce our reliance on grid electricity and further lower the carbon impact of our operations. Combined with our fully electric processing plant, this represents a significant step towards lower-carbon aggregate production.

Electric Vans and Trucks

As part of our ongoing investment in more sustainable operations, we introduced 2 Renault Kangoo E-Tech electric vans to our fleet. Used for day-to-day journeys between our sites and for local travel, they help us reduce our reliance on fossil fuels and move towards lower-carbon transport.

Importantly, our electric vans are charged at our sites using solar-generated electricity, helping us make greater use of renewable energy across our operations and further reducing the carbon impact of our day-to-day activities.

MHR Crusher

Omega Crusher

Our Omega crushing and screening plant at our Mannings Heath Road Depot processes tipped hardcore into recycled aggregate for reuse.

This new equipment has led to a nearly 45% diesel fuel and tCO2e reduction for this process. While its electric power pack also supplies our Trackstack. By combining efficient processing with the reuse of materials, we are reducing fuel consumption, diverting suitable waste from disposal and producing recycled aggregates with a lower environmental impact.
