California Quarry’s stone found a new home thousands of miles away when Honed Purbeck Grub paving slabs were produced and shipped for the new flooring of a church in Virginia, USA. Covering around 20 square metres, the slabs were cut in widths of 300mm and 400mm, with random lengths and a thickness of 19mm, creating a timeless and elegant finish.

The new stone aisle now runs through the centre of the church, bringing a natural warmth and sense of permanence to the space. California Quarry also supplied two door thresholds to complete the scheme, ensuring the design flowed seamlessly from entrance to altar.

Every slab was produced on site in Swanage under the care of Quarry Manager Nick Crocker and Director Matthew Suttle, before being collected by the customer’s own transport and shipped across the Atlantic. To ensure the stone arrived in pristine condition, the slabs were packed into secure plastic containers for the journey.

From first cut to final crate, the work at the quarry took around two weeks, a small window of time for a project that will leave a lasting mark on a historic building an ocean away.
