Cobnor Point Habitat Regeneration, Chichester Harbour

Client – Land & Water

Material – 3000t Rock Armour & 800t 6G Gabion Fill

Land & Water were contracted with the works of re-profiling of the site, ponds excavation, landscaping and construction of two breaches with footbridge design & construction across the breaches, to allow salt water onto the mud flats. Suttles’ Rock Armour from Swanworth Quarry was used as a buffer around the perimeter of the site to provide protection to the newly created ponds and mud flats, ensuring the ecosystems were not disturbed. The rock armour helps to trap and slow the flow of water to prevent any removal of sediment from within the mudflats or ponds. Since installation the area has been clear of flooding and species have managed to make a strong foothold in developing their habitats on the mudflats.

Why Land & Water Chose Suttles:

“Suttles were selected as preferred suppliers due to the quality of their stone, their ability to deliver the product within programme and with competitive rates.”

On the job:

“The works site was at the end of a private one-way road which required some strict logistics planning and close liaison with the delivery drivers.   The outcome was that the stone was delivered to site on time and with minimal complaints from the public.”

“Suttles would be the first call I make to facilitate any future requirements we have along the South Coast.”
