Swanage Old Stone Quay

If you know Swanage you will know that the stone slipway off of the old stone quay has been in disrepair since some bad storms in 2019, which was causing a hazard, it’s a really popular crabbing and swimming location and one that locals were keen to see fixed.

The main problem was that a cavity beneath the stone had been created over time which eventually resulted in some of the large stones falling into the void. This exposed an area prone to flooding with the tide but one that was also enticing to exploring children.

The stone slipway before any work had taken place

Our site operatives used a technology called a ‘grout mattress’ to fill the void and create a surface that was then suitable for them to re-lay the stone and make it stronger in the future.

The grout mattress filling the void

All of the stone was supplied by our sister company Suttle Stone Quarries from our quarry in Swanage as not all of the original stone pieces that fell through could be recovered or they had suffered damage making them unusable.
