Woodlands Burial Ground
Woodlands Burial Ground is a natural woodland cemetery. The location features a fairly high-water table. After the site operator decided to construct a crematorium to enhance their service, Suttle Projects were tasked with creating a large water-tight basement with secant piling.
This technique features the construction of a wall, made up of female and male piles. To install the piles, we utilised an RTG 19T leader rig equipped with a double rotary auger and casing attachment. Piles were filled with hollow stem concrete injection. The female piles were installed using a soft concrete mix. The male piles were then constructed by penetrating the edges of the female piles and filling them with a harder specification structural concrete mix. Reinforcement cage could be accurately inserted using a secondary crane.
Suttle Projects were also contracted to install bearing piles for structural support, and also to counteract uplift on the new crematorium basement. The RTG 19 T, and a Klemm 709 segmental flight auger, (SFA), rig combined to complete this phase, using the larger rig’s capacity for some elements, and the SFA rig’s agility for the difficult to access parts.
The end result offered a truly dry and safe environment for the ensuing high quality structural concrete work to be completed safely and efficiently.
