Palmer’s Brewery is a historic listed building located next to the River Brit in Bridport, Dorset.  The river wall that was directly adjacent to this building had become unstable and Suttle Projects were contracted to stabilise it and improve flood defences to the brewery and surrounding area.

Work was made more complicated by the proximity to this sensitive 18th century structure. In particular, the continuation of brewery production during the work implementation period meant that access had to be made and utilised from the opposite bank of the river. For this aspect, we created an innovative steel tube causeway structure, matted for construction loadings with marine bulk timbers.  Utilising our own Movax side grip sheet piling equipment we installed new tied sheet piles, underpinning the river wall in some areas, and facilitating rebuilding work in others.  All was conducted within an environmental permit structure.

The complete package of works included concrete pavement and drainage works.
