Gillingham Tunnel Drainage
The project was to improve the drainage to the railway cuttings at the London and country ends of Gillingham railway tunnel in Dorset.
Utilising a team of 15 operatives and staff within a sensitive environment, the ditches were cleared, reshaped and desilted, and we created new pipe and ditch outfall structures. The completion of the new drainage, pipework and manholes was in close proximity to the operational railway and, at the country end, the work was supported with the use of a long-reach 65-Tonne excavator.
Extensive use of concrete canvas was required to the ditch sides and inverts where these received higher flow volumes and velocity.
