Deans Farm
Network Rail proposed to construct a new footbridge over the Brighton main railway line at Deans Farm, in Salfords, Surrey. Pedestrian level crossings, inherited from Victorian construction of our rail network, are a safety issue and a programme exists to gradually eliminate these crossings from the network with a series of new bridges and subways.
As part of this work, the new footbridge foundations needed to be supported on 300mm diameter bored piles, and Suttle Piling were contracted to carry out the installation of these piles as well as the enabling works to facilitate the piling. The current crossing was on an existing embankment, and level areas to either side of the line had to be created to advance both the piling and the later foundation construction. Thus, we were able to assist in two ways on the scheme, providing sheet piling for the foundation platforms and augered bearing piles to support the new bridge.
The sheet piling work featured a Doosan 340 base unit with Prolec slew restriction further equipped with a Movax SP70F4. This was ideally suited for the ALO (adjacent line open) work involved. A Klemm 708 midi SFA rig had the limited height to again work within ALO restrictions to pre-auger for the sheet piles and then auger and cast the new bearing piles.
All equipment was owned by Suttle Piling in line with our philosophy to provide value by self-delivery where possible.
