Backwell Lake is a haven for a diversity of wildlife including grey herons, pipstrelle bats and rare dragonflies. Situated between Backwell and Nailsea in North Somerset it is open to the public at all times. The client wanted a viewing platform for bird watching, with an underslung wildfowl platform complete with ramps. In order to complete the job Suttle Projects took a basic client design that was provided and refined it so it was suitable for construction.

More detail about the project:

  • The finished product was a steel structure with high quality marine timber finishes
  • It was supported on a footprint of 8self-delivered screw piles.
  • The screw piles were installed with a bespoke excavator mounted screw pile attachment with a pre-set torque facility.
  • The superstructure was prefabricated in workshop conditions at our Poole operations centre for crane assisted transport and assembly on site.
